Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) or Helicopter Air Ambulance (HAA) is the industry term used to reference short-distance helicopter-based transport of medical patients.

This includes critical care transport between hospitals, evacuation of accident scenes and disaster areas, and certain search and rescue activity.

The technology surrounding vertical take-off aircraft is experiencing a rapid transformation.
